New to crenichicla , need help with id.

Hello everyone,

I was interested in pike cichlids for some time and I was able to order directly from Columbia in a group buy. With my budget, I was able to acquire 5 crenichicla sp. blood tear. They were rather pricy considering the others listed, but I'm a gambler. I have them in a 30some hex quarantine tank. Prazi pro and epson treatment ATM. Does anyone have a id on this strain. Can't find online so think the blood tear is just some boo boo nickname. Any help would be great.

Hard to capture true colors...and only in tank a few hours... Haven't tried feeding yet.

possibly young crenicichla inirida III, at 0:39 one of them looks like it has some of the characteristics

I've seen one pop up at my local LFS. They called also called it a blood tear pike. I get no hits on Google under that common name blood tear. I do get hits for "fire spot" crenicichla though.

Thanks for the reply Rocksor. My pikes do seem to have that mark below the eyes and faint red on the fins. Is this a commonly imported fish? Also thanks for the link. Awesome photo base !
