Hello People i just baught 2 amazing 2.5-3 inch snake skin tourquois Discus they caught my eye at a fish club action yesterday so i had to get them one i got for $22 the smaller of the 2 and the other for 27 dollars. Now i used tap water and they are in a 20 alone and will be alone they seem to spend every second together and like the tank now any advice for water please i know they need lower PH will adding some salt to the water help that. When i mean add i mean add very little to thw ater every time i do a water change. My water quality is extremely good in all my tanks i change out 5% ever 3 days.

Thank you

Joshua

Unless your PH level is off the chart, I wouldn't mess with it. Two is not the ideal number to start off unless you have a mated pair. It is better to get a group of 6 or more. They are very social and do better in groups. If you don't see any agressiveness between them than you're lucky.

Juvinile discus at 2.5" need a lot of food and alot of WCs. Your Water changing schedule will need to be increased. You might be able to get by but you will not be providing them with the best chance to thrive. How's your tap water? I think it would be better to store over nite and keep it heated and areated if you can. You'll be gasing out the chloramines/chlorine your water contains. Discus don't like that. Treat your water with Prime. By aging your water you also stabelize the pH.

I am by no means an expert. But, I try to change approx. 20% of my water (In a 75 gallon) everyday. I do a minimum of 20% every 3 days....I average 20% every other day (Did that make sense to anyone else but me?). I have filter overkill. I am running a Bio-Wheel 350 (Which is rated for a 75 gallon tank), a Rena XP3 Canister Filter (Rated for a 100 gallon tank), and a 9 watt U.V. Sterilizer (When there is no metro in the tank). The UV Sterilizer is rated for a 450 gallon pond. I currently have 12 juv. Discus in the tank ranging from about 1.5" to almost 4".

I think i am lucky the to fish seemed to have formed a pair i dont know how to Sex discus yet but they do everything together actually it like watching syncronized swimming. They also rub against eachother very offen so i am i am assuming they have paired its been 3 days now and no aggression at all. They are alot less jumpy then when i first got them so i am assuming they enjoy your new home.

I will treat the water let it sit out over night see if that makes them even happier.

Thank you

Hello I read that discus like some Veggies any suggestions of some i can leave in the tank for them to munch on during the day since they are a grazing fish.

Cucumber seems to be the favorite

I wouldn't leave food in there like cucubmers for the whole day. It'll cloud your water. Get an auto feeder and feed them dry flakes or tetrabits.

I keep a small piece of zucchini in my 40 G that I'm growing out Longfin Albino Plecos and the water gets pretty cloudy from the zucchini.
