Hello, longtime (30 + years) hobbiest, just getting into discus. I traded in some fish to a lfs and got a good deal on beatiful medium sized blue discus that is doing great so far. I also bought 2 large blue/tangerine discus and 4 small (nickel sized) blue/pigeon discus. I got all of them with 1 day. So a far so good,but...

Need suggestions on food to feed. I know it may take a while for them to eat due to their new surroundings. The Blue one is doing great and appears to be fully acclimated. The others are swimming around fine but not eating yet.

I have a 150g acryllic tank with 2 emp 400's & 2 magnum 220's and the tank has been going for about 4 years now.

Any suggestions on feeding, water quality and anything else is appreciated, I will post pictures later.

Thanks,
Dan

Just the norm-

Temp. 82-85 f.
pH 6.0-6.5
Try to keep all other levels low. (ites/ates, ammonia)
Lotsa water changes. At least 1 a week.
I feed several times a day. Flakes mostly. Beefheart and bloodworms as treats.
You should be aok!

Thanks for the info,

water changes I think I can handle 1 a week, but how much is enough.

Feeding.......How long should I wait till they are comfortable and eating well. I have a good source for black worms, is it best to just drop them in the tank or get one of those cone feeders.

Tankscaping....live or fake plants?? If live is preferred, what are the better ones for them.

Personally I do 25-35% of tank volume or what it takes to keep your water parameters in line. I feed mine something crazy like 4-6 times a day. Flakes mostly. If your worms are live, cone them. If enough of them get in the gravel the can destroy your bio system. I used frozen cuz you can cut it up to suit the size of your fish. Although discus love live plants, I have never had much success so I do a combination of both. Hope this helps!

with your young discus i've read that very frquent water changes are better
