I don't know where to really start but i want some discus ive been doing some reading about them and looking on the forum trying to figure out what to do. I have a 36 gallon corner tank that i would like to use and do a setup like the amazonian did.I don't want allot of them but don't know how many i could house in that kind of setup with all the plants and wood. I really like the fact that with discus give you the great colors with out having salt water. I figure with help from this forum i should get some great resullts.

Start with an absolute minimum of 4. Find a good breeder, or importer, and visit them.

Is there a cheap fish when i do get every thing setup right that i can use to test out the tank before i go and buy the discus

get a group of at least 6 cardinal tetras or just a guppy to test the water

Is that really the best test fish im not second guessing you or anything but i really want something that really needs close to there water parameters

As far as being close to the same water parameters, you can use pretty much any asian or SA/CA fish. Discus are not nearly as fragile as you think. As long as your filtration is good, and you have a cycled tank, without extreme cases, the fish will be fine. Rummynose are a great indicating fish for when the params go out of whack though. But that is more for later when the discus are in the water.

neon tetras are a nice group of fish to put alongside your discus. As long as you maintain consistent water changes, you should be fine

thanx allot for the help i was kind of worried about getting them so this eases my mind a little i gues
