hey guys im thinking about building a wet/dry and im just about to start planning it out. Was wondering if I should use spray bars at the bottom of the intake into the sump or just have a drip tray? they both spread the water out as it goes through the media, correct? could anybody clear this up and tell me which one they prefer.

Not an, either-or..
Use them both.
For good dispersion of the un-filtered water over your mechanical media, a “spray bar” is an easy way to do this.
A drip plate will help get a good, even flow of the clean, filtered water over your bio media.

I would think that either one would work. Cost wise spray bar would beat out the drip plate.

<edit>

Well I learned something today. Disregard my previous statement.

I would think the drip plate would disperse the water better in a wet/dry. I drip plate can cover several square feet if needed where a spray bar is limited to the length of the bar and a few inches of spray. I would also think a spray bar would be more likely to clog from unfiltered water. A prefilter would almost be a must in either application.

Both Make your drip tray with filter padding on ttop of drip tray. Then run whatever size pvc you plan on using usually 1- 1 1/4" make a spraybar over the drip tray drill a bunch of 1/4" holes in the spraybar. This will disperse water better also your filter pad wont just get clogged up in one central spot

Alright thanks guys. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Once I get this whole project going be prepared for some more questions from a Noob. :grinno:
