Hi, I'm new to FBTs. I got some and I know generally what to do- I have 3 in a little circular ramped habitat that I got in the mail. It is about 3/4 water with a little moss in it and some gravel. I feed them crickets every 2 days. Now, is there anything else I should be doing (I change the water once a week), aand how do I make a really awesome habitat and get them to breed?

:feedback:

As far as breeding, im not too sure, but they will definitely need a larger environment than those circular ramp habitats. Those only hold about a gallon of water at most. For them to be comfortable enough to be completely happy, I would reccomend a 20g long tank, 3/4 water, lots of moss and moisture retaining plants, fake or otherwise, the silk plants work well.

For any creature to breed though, they need a varied diet, so crickets wont be enough, go for wax worms and fruit flies too. From time to time I would get the really small mosquito fish or Rosy Red fish from the store too.

They are probably tiny now but they do get to a decent size. They also might breed if you get them the proper habitat. I would also give them a warmer area to sit on. I would use a heat pad though and not a light.

hi, thanks everybody. I recently transferred the frogs to a 20g tank. Now, they seem to be shedding? They are very still, but move when touched. They have clouded eyes., and seem to seek out dark spots.

I think frogs will shed ocassionally. Im not positive on this though. I would give them a nice moist hide to sit in and let them chill. They are probably very stressed. I would hold off on any food until they settle in too because they are just going to let is spoil.
Also a picture would help.

weve had 3 FBT at my place for about a year in a 15g. gf is gonna prob add two more cause they havent really grown much, so still tons of room.

fed a dozen crickets once a week usually, no filtration, just weekly partial water changes, and they can croak quite abit at any time. no shedding.

no breeding yet either, tho im sure members here have bred them before.

nice pickup. we enjoy them and they seem real hardy.

i had a around 15 of them a while back and there so easy to care for.u can search for a care sheet easily but here are some tips.

feed them a varied diet(waxworms, crickets, stuff like that) plus they really love earthworms , the ew are a fav of them just make sure they empty out there guts b4 u feed them.u can get them "trained " by hand feeding them the ew and soon they will gather to the usual spot to feed just make sure they all get a shot.

i had them breed several times but never kept the eggs.they seem to respond to daily water misting there tank during the evning and usually start calling soon afther.

sorry about the spelling.small crappy keyboard.

for breeding you to simulate rain and drop the temp but i noticed your post about the dark fire bellies need it cooler then most people realise try to keep your tank no higher then 80f in the day and a temp drop at night is needed.i keep a filter on my water sect in the viv and change it weekly they deacate and urinate in the water so provide a water dish also and dust your feeders with calcium dust.
if you have any more questions i'll be happy to answer them.
