Hi guys Im knew to fish keeping and I need some advice here are my current setups. I have a
55 gal tank with a Fluval U4 Underwater filter Tetra Power filter currently not hooked up because my frames stupid.. Heater Undergravel filter Volcano air bubbler 3 tiger barbs 2 Jack Dempseys 1 Black convict 1 Pink Convict Bunch of newborn convict fry 1 Peacock eel 3 gallon acrylic aquarium Deco Kit Rapids 3-stage power filter 18W compact fluorescent perch-light fixture with 50/50 14,000°K actinic and 7,400°K daylight lamp heater sand substrate Male and Female guppy 13 guppy fry

So I new my guppy was preg but my convicts took my gf and I by surprise we never saw eggs or anything just happened to look in the tank today when I went to feed them and BOOM they were there. What can I do to make sure the fry stay alive? I need specific details on if I should get a divider and if I should if I should take the parents away from them. Also what should I feed the fry and how can I feed them without all my other fish eating the food If im not suppose to put a divider in. My peacock eel was in heaven for about the 10 mins I had the light off becuz when I turned it back on I noticed some were missing... lol. Is there any cheaper alternative to a DIY tank divider? if there is what materials are needed, and how am I suppose to get those tiny little things in there of in a net breeder if thats better than a divider. I cant get anymore tanks, I have these in my gf's room becuz my parents wont let me keep them here, just letting you know. Any help please and thank you!

I would recommend separate tanks for the fry and more tanks to split up and house some of the rest of your stock.

well I thought my convicts were males. I've had them for like a month and they never did anything so I bought guppies to breed to give them some live food to chase and eat for something to watch and as a treat, and boom my other tank have cichlid fry now..

Do you have any pictures of your tank setup?

Well then stop sitting around waiting for someone else to do your research for you and start reading. There is more info on this site than you could ever need to know.

And welcome, btw.

To answer your question the convicts are very protective parents and the fry should be ok but with that many fish in the tank they could be food for the jack dempseys. If you have another tank that is cycled you could try to catch all of them with a cyphon vac and move them to that. You will need to make sure the water parameters are perfect and will have to do quite a few water changes. You can feed the convict fry baby brine shrimp (buy the egg kit from your LFS) and you will have to feed them more often than the adults. With the increased feeding schedule, tank will get dirty quickly which is the reason for the frequent water changes.

As far as this site is starting to blow.....when you ask a question, you need to make sure you have put all the details. Provide tank size, full water parameters, etc. Guppies and cichlids usually are not kept together. If you are using them as feeders normally they are bred in another tank. If you don't mind losing them or have them in there for the purpose of being feeders, I don't see a problem. Also, give people a chance to answer your questions. This site has a ton of information with a lot of helpful people.

Good luck to you in your future fish endeavors!!

Ive been looking all over this site was my last resort and never mind now. my gf just got home and said the babies are gone and she cant find them.

the jd's dont even mess with the convicts they've been afraid of my convicts since I put them in the tank
