I am new to fish photography, enjoying it but finding it to be quite a challenge. My first pics were with a cheap point & shoot, my best "products" to date have come from my LG cell phone camera. Yesterday I got a Nikon D60, so I am hoping to learn to take beautiful photos of my fish! (Oh yeah, and my kids and dog).

I am currently keeping:
Melanotaenia lacustris (turquoise rainbow fish) - x8
Aperonotus albifrons (black ghost knife fish)
Erpetoichthys calabaricus (rope fish)
Brochis splendens (emerald catfish)
Corydoras paleatus (peppered cory)
Bunocephalus coracoideus (banjo catfish)

Welcome to APF, Deana.
You've got nice fish and a nice camera and you've just joined the experts - so you're well on the way to taking those beautiful photos. Unfortunately the next bit is the hardest one - taking the photos can be very frustrating. As soon as you get some that look promising, please post them here and we will be able to suggest how you can get closer to your goal.

Welcome Deana!

As Alan mentions, be sure to post a picture and I am sure we will get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks! I've been keeping fish for many years, but it wasn't until I started keeping rainbows that I realized people take pictures of their fish. Many of the people I've met in the bow-keeping community are very serious fish photographers.

I'm lucky to have found this site, and to be in an excellent local aquarium club with many great fish photographers.

Likewise, I've been "taking pictures" for years, but I know nothing about photography, so I'm just starting to learn about anything more than pressing the red button! Also, I have a lot to learn about how my camera works, and what type of lenses and accessories to buy. Now, I also have to figure out how to get all the water spots off the tank!

I've only taken a few photos to try out the camera, so I don't feel ready to submit one for critique, but I do have some great fish, so here is one of my fish that I took on "Auto"
