Hello, all. Just wanted to say hello and say I've spent most of my time on MFK in the Datnoid forum but recently got the itch to get myself a Flowerhorn. I wouldn't say I know a lot of the fine details of FH but I'm plenty experienced with cichlids in general so if anyone could tell me anything about mine it would be well received and appreciated. His (I think) name is Jake and I've had him for just over 3 months now.
Jake started out simply on Hikari Cichlid Gold and was quickly moved onto Southern Delight Growth Enhancing Food from Aquatic Support Systems as well as cut up tilapia fillet and market shrimp and most of his meals are soaked in Vitachem. A few times he's enjoyed tubiflex worms and crickets as a treat.
He was originally in a 12g nano tank to get him accustomed to human interaction and simplifying the feeding process and ease of maintenance. He was recently moved into a 50g tile bottom acrylic aquarium. Long term I would like to move him into a 75-100g aquarium.
Jake's quirk? He had a busted up, crooked left pectoral fin when I bought him but regardless he's full of energy and personality and already one of my favorite fish I've ever kept when he isn't biting and holding onto my pinky during cleaning.
First photo is the day I brought Jake home and the second is tonight.
Thanks for taking a look.
