Hey all,

I have a similar thread in the polyps section, but thought I'd give a shout out here too and tap the brains of those with discus and angel experience.

I completely re-did my 75 gallon CA cichlid tank, got rid of all my fish in that tank, and got my first bichir, angel fish, and discus (x3)

The tank is 48" x 18" with three fully cycled canister filters (2 aquatop cf 300s and a fluval xp3). Pool filter sand substrate, bogwood, live plants and large smooth river rock. The angelfish is 5 inches, the 3 discus range from 2 inches to about 3 1/2 inches (I will be driving to Portland in the next couple weeks to get 3 more from the Wet Spot to finish my stock), and the bichir is about 4 inches.

These guys are all new within the last 2 weeks. So far everyone gets along, but none (except maybe the angel) are mature yet, so fingers crossed it stays that way! I finally have my dream stock, and I'd hate to wake up to chunks missing from my fish as the bichir swims around gleefully with a mouthful of discus.

I feed them frozen beefheart, brine shrimp and krill. They also get frozen daphnia and omega one veggie flakes. I do >10% daily water changes. Tank at 84 degrees, pH at 7 and nitrates stay below 10

My work blocks flickr and photobucket (I guess they want me to keep busy) so here's a few links to my google drive so you can get a taste for what I have... unless someone knows how to post a pic (instead of a link) using google drive?

Thanks for reading, I look forward to hanging out with ya'll!

Cheers

I noticed last night that my discus droppings were bright green. And there was lots of it! There is a good amount of algae on the leaves of my anubias, and they do eat it (the smallest one grazes on it pretty constantly), but otherwise they get mostly protien, as noted in my original post.

Sounds weird to ask, but is the algae they are eating getting processed before it becomes poo, or is just going right through them? It is a brighter green after it's, uh excreted, than the algae itself.... I just thought it was odd. I've never seen fish poo look like it could glow in the dark. Maybe it's a normal color for discus, tho?

I kinda feel like a new parent freaking out over the color of my baby's messy diaper. o_O

lol, not sure about the green poo either, but every time I read of poo other than dark pellets, It could be a
red flag. I guess that means keep an eye out for other symptoms.

Just got back from a weekend camping trip and my angels stomach looks a little sunken in. I stupidly didnt quarantine, which i know is a huge no-no. I hope its just being without food for a couple days, which shouldv been fine. The other fish are looking great. Is this normal for angels?

He looks ok... just needs to eat..lol the green poop is normal from eating greens and a good thing as it will help the discus from getting costipated.. watch that the angel does not out compete the discus... Big angel small discus is not always the best way to go... and welcome! oh btw if you click full image instead of thumbnail it is easier to see.

Thank you Jay, thats a huge relief! And thanks for the "full image" tip, i be sure to do that. The angel does get more food, but i try to spread the food out a bit and watch the discus to make sure they eat.
