Hi i am new here to MFK, I have had a 55g rimless tank I have been slowly setting up for 4 months now. I am trying to figure out the best fish that can live in a tank this size for life? I really like bass but everyone I talk to say that they will out grow this size tank? Any thoughts would be appericated !

Yes a 55 is only good as a grow out. Bass need a large tank. Example 4 in a 240 would keep them very happy.

it all comes down to what kind of fishkeeper you want to be.
some people are happy to put 12" or even 14" fish in a 12" wide tank figuring as long as the water quality is good, the fish is fine. sure it's difficult to turn around, but it manages.
myself, I like the fish to have some space. I'll keep smaller fish so they can have a higher quality of life. in a 55G I would plan for fish that can grow to 6" or 7" knowing that most won't reach that size, but if they do I won't need a new tank.
