I would if I were you. Provided your 220 has the 6x2 footprint like I think it does, you shuold provide a Florida a good home for life.

That's weird, I just picked up a Gator Gar almost identical in size from my LFS around here. They usually have Floridas labeled as "Alligator Gar"...but it is genuine like that one. He'll eventually outgrow even the largest of my aquariums, but for $30 he'll be rewarding to watch for the time being and it will keep him out of some average folk's small aquarium.

I would say yours is a couple inches smaller than the OP. Also, what do you consider a 'small' tanks. How big is your biggest? What do you plan on doing with the gar when it outgrows your tank? Why did you buy the fish knowing that it will outgrow your tank?

how would i know for sure that its a florida gar??
what traits should i be looking for??

CHeck out the gar ID sticky. Floridas are pretty easy to ID. Basically, around your area (well I assume because I'm not too far from you) You're going to have floridas and gators. The floridas will have a little longer and more narrow snout. That should be your easiest way to id.

Sorry I didn't you were the police around here. Dude, you apparently don't know me, so back off. I used to maintain a set of farm ponds for the ambition of breeding Alligator Gar here. Um, I would say in most situations Alligator Gars don't belong in aquaria at all unless you have a tank that rivals a public exhibit. I bought it, because if I didn't buy it like some uninformed individual likely would and stick it in their 50 gallon at most aquarium, and dump it when it grew too big. In my case, nice he outgrows all my tanks, he's going into a pond.

For your information, my largest tank is 150 Gallons, however it has the dimensions to support the smaller Gar species.
