just got a gsp and i was told they where freshwater puffers but went to brackish when they were older. is this true? hes about an inch and i got him in a 10gal freshwater setup i was going to put him in a 30gal breeder with a pair of firemounths. i guess i can set up the 10 to brackish but i need some info on that cause i never set up a brackish tank before

They can survive for a minute in fresh.... But to reach full size... Brackish is a must..

6" GSP is awesome!!

I believe there are a few threads on how to go brackish in this section.. Do a search in this section. I also believe I was told marine salt is a must ;)

20gL or a 30g is the minimum size for a 6" GSP. At this size (practically full grown), they should be in full marine, but can do well in heavy brackish. In the wild they hatch from very lightly brackish tributaries and stay there until they eventually move to the coastal region.

Any marine salt will work, but not aquarium salt.

Green Spotted Puffers

lost my little guy internal parasite :( my lfs say that alot of puffers dont last long due to stress and internal parasites:(.

maybe i should stick with full freshwater puffers. do you guys know of some good ones, the only one i know is the dwarf puffers.

True but easily remedied, if caught early enough.

what about freshwater puffers? do you know of some other then the dwarf puffers? i would like to have a pair about 5-6" fully grown.

FW puffers (especially the larger species), do not do well with conspecifics (2 of the same species) in the same tank.
