Never had a ray before I know that the best beginner ray its the Motoro but my tank could not house that ray for life a not upgrading soon... I would need your opinion about how hard is to keep healthy a Hystrix stingray (wild) and if my filtration could keep a up my tank (125gal sump, drip system 50lts of k1, 20gal of bio media and two 7' filter bags) any other advice would be great!
Thanks to take time respond

You could keep a Brazilian hystrix in a 125g for awhile, depending on the size of the ray when you get it. Sounds like your filtration/drip system will work well. What other fish do you plan on keeping?

The plan is a colombian biotope but my main specie would be the ray with discus or santanoperca, geos? The tank is 470 not 125.

A 470 would work for life as long as it is more of a wide and long tank rather then really tall I would say at least 72x30", but the bigger the better!

With a 470 I would be inclined to say go for any ray you want pending width

Ok, much bigger tank. As stated, if the tank foot print is big enough you could fit a few more hystrix. I don't keep discus with my hystrix so can't help there. I do have 5 red head geos with my rays. They killed one cichlid the first night, but have left them alone since.

Sorry for the misunderstanding it's a 10 x 2.5 x 2.5Ft with a 125 sump. How difficult are these rays to keep? Is it true that they are picky or hard to convert too pellets? With what do you treat ray for internal parasites ? What other problems may i have ?

I had no issues comverting my hystrix to pellets before selling to a buddy, it might have helped having a motoro already pellet trained. As for your footprint I would try to get three females one male, that would be plenty of space for them in my opinion

your good for almost any type of ray keep the temp up to 80-86 and keep salanity at 1.002. for the treatment of the rays that is normally done before they are sold. personally i would look at a trio of any type of ray besides tigers and ceja just due to size. but pellet training is not always the best thing a variety of foods is best that way nothing is lacking in diet plus i see that feeding pellets all the time take the natural hunting behaviors from the rays. so a mix of shrimp, krill, salmon, earthworms, tilapia and other meats work great and mixing in pellets with this can help cut back on food costs.

Thanks guys for the advices, the mayority of fish from my vendor have parasites (wild) because really dont know but it sucks. hystrix is really the ray that i think its the best because for my tank width. Whats the longevity of a hystrix? how much an adult ray eats? i know that a lot but how much is a lot?
