I have a few questions about keeping snails/shrimp.
-Can I keep either one in a 2.5 gallon?
-If so, what type of filtration?
-Can a 2.5 gallon be cycled?

Thanks for the response! Sounds good, I haven't started anything yet getting some ideas. Could I keep Nerite Snails?

In a 2.5g i would stick with just shrimp and build a small colony, since you dont want to over crowd the tank...

Okay, sounds like a plan. I'm guessing temperatures 75+? And also I need mechanical filtration not just a sponge filter right?

A sponge filter is both Biological and Mechanical Filtration. The BB will grow and colonize on the surface area of the sponge while the Air pump hooked up to the sponge filter will pull the water threw the sponge filtering the water mechanically as well.

Woops...I meant to ask if I will need chemical filtration?

Chemical filtration is really only needed if there is an outside substance i.e. medication in the tank. activated carbon attracts the foreign substance and pulls it out of the water which makes it controversial because some people believe it takes nutrients out of the water as well. So no I don't think you need any chemical filtration.

Okay thank you. Is sand fine for this tank? And also what type of decor is preferred by Red cherry shrimp?
