HI im just starting my cycle on new 240L tank, i dont know alot about Mbuna/other malawis, so far i have decided the first fish i put in will be a group of Yellow labs, i would also like to get a couple Blue Haps, what other brightly coloured Mbunas would compliment these species and how many of each?

There's not too many haps that can withstand most mbuna's aggression. Labs are one that works, acei another. What are the tank dimensions, that would help determine which haps to choose.

as far as haps go the only one i really want is the blue haps because i had them years ago and they are beautiful, i do wish i could have a Livingstonii or a Venestus but concede the tank is not big enough, so just diff types of Mbunas will do me, but how many in total? i only want to have 1 external filter (fluval 406)

actually those haps which have a blue face and orange/yellow body are nice also (been looking at vids).

A 36" tank is kinda small for most haps and mbuna. I would do 1m/5f labs and one male haps, a smaller species like placidochromis Electra or otopharnyx lithobates.

Sunshine peacock. Stuartgranti maleri. Small and not very aggressive. Good for a small tank.

I have decided to get 4 yellow labs with a pile of rocks on one end then all male peacocks.

How many peacocks am i realistically looking at? I'd like to get quite a few now i have been reading into them, i wont be getting the haps now

Its a 44" tank

It was early, I overlooked the 8" part. With you labs you might be able to do 4-5 male peacocks and haps. Look for fish that don't resemble each other and be ready to move anyone that doeando work out.
