I'm picking up a 265g tank some time next month off my friend he got a 500 lucky him but i was wondering if i could only put 150g of water in it for now cause my floor at my apt wont hold it and I'm moving in 2 years when my girl is done with school so my ? is what kind of filter could i use to do this if their is one havening it and not setting it up will kill me in time :nilly::nilly: any help please

you not on the bottom floor? apartments are usually on a slab on the bottom floor.

their is a basement under me but i cant jack up the floor cause the water heater and the furness is in the way of were i want to put the tank on a out side wall and their is a another apt under the back half of my apt

Congrats. on the future tank, and yes, you can only fill it partially.
By doing so, you pretty much limit yourself to internal or canister filtration.
If it's drilled, I suppose you could use shorter standpipes and use a W/D, but HOB's are out.

its not drilled and i planed on the canister but am i still out of luck on the filling it only half way

Not at all, just make the intake long enough to be submerged, and the output either above or below the waterline, your choice.

sweet well i post some pix of my half filled tank when i get up and running
