I purchased a Cichla sold as a Mono about 7 weeks ago. I have 18 tanks up and running and this one is my wet pet. It is housed in a 75 for the time being all by itself. The tank is planted with a sand substrate. I have been feeding omega one large cichlid pellets for the time being but had questions on the amount of food to be fed. The bass is around 3.5" at the moment. I usually feed it twice a day about 3-4 pellets each feeding. I see they are really greedy when it comes to food so I wanted to make sure I am not under feeding or over feeding. My reasoning behind this is extra nutrients in the water causing an algae out break.

Hi there and welcome Kinda looks like a farmy hybrid ..As far as feeding feed as much as you would like to clean simple as that ....

Welcome.
Nice tank!
I say feed it 3 times daily. Feed it as much as it'll eat. It needs all its nutrients it can get at this size

I was not to sure about what it was, I have been lurking MFK for a while enjoying all the monsters here. So looks to be hybrid? I was wondering but figured it was too young, plus this is my first go round with cichla.

Wow, your lucky it eats pellets.

Very lucky it eats pellets.

Stunning grow out by the way, it could indeed be a hybrid.

Get some more cichla in there - what temperature do you have your tank set to?

I would get more but I have yet to purchase a tank to house this one. I have 2 125s but they will not do, I plans of getting a deep dimension tank in the near future, until then this is it.
I had an easier time getting cichla to eat pellets vs crenicichla. I do not run heaters in most tanks except for the few that get blasted by the ac unit. The tank stays around 82 during the day and around 79 at night. I do have heaters if needed but I keep them in the closet.
