Hey guys how is it going? I just recently bought a baby s.a. redtail catfish. I have a quick question about him. I have heard and seen various places that these are big eaters, my question is, my little guy has only ate a blood worm cube and a red worm the past almost two weeks... I try the hand feeding and all that and nothing... He is very active in the tank I just feel he is not eating like he should. I think I got a dud... jk... Any advice would help... Thanks!!!

i have given him a little bit of everything, blood worm cubes, krill cubes, shrimp pellets, red worms, red rosies, and regular flakes... and I have really only seen him devour a worm and thats it.... and everything else it seems like he snubs his nose at and wont touch... im just worried....

ok this might sound gross but I do this with my raphy cats to spoil them buy some south american night crawlers from walmart they are used for bait they use a sharp knife to slit it the long way and they gut it. suck up all the guts in a turkey baster (with water) they spray this in the tank it makes them go bezerk. they throw in a night crawler th movement will make him go crazy. keep in mind that the night crawlers are more than 60 percent protein. in my opinion they are the ultimate food source.

I wish I had the room to stock an RTC they are just soo cool I would rather have TSNXRTC or an RTC tho anyway catfish are just soo adorable and cool

ok im done ranting now good luck.

o and also come feed it at night in the dark pitch black that is were RTC normally hunt so he will use his smell and feelers.

agree until he really starts eating try it with the lights off... you will see his belly grow if he eats... they are monster once they start tho... goodluck

looks like i am buying some nightcrawlers, really the only thing i have not tried just yet... also i do try to feed him at like midnight with the tank lights off.... i turn on a light far away so that i can still sorta see in the tank... he still does nothing...he just hids in his little rock cave... my friend has one and when his was little he was eating like a machine and never had this problem... could it be because of tank mates? african cichlids, electric blue cichlid, irridecent catfish, bala shark, clown loaches, spotted catfish, and a little cory cat...

the tankmates shouldn't be a problem to him... but when he starts growing... he might be a problem to them... the clown loaches i hope they are big cuz they will dissapear if not... my tiger shovelnose at 7 inch ate a 3inch loach or so... i knew he would be didn't have the tank to move him too yet... but stories about RTC eating tankmates are much more common... some get lucky tho

yeah the loaches are decent size like 6 inches or so... so they have a little before we have to watch out for them.... i said once tank mates start to dissapear they get a new home... the first one to go i feel is the little cory cat... he is so small im suprised he has not tried to eat him jsut yet... but i stopped feeding him for two days and i put a worm in and dangled it in front of his face and still nothing.... i dont know what his problem is....

good news... so i woke up this morning and two of the rosie reds that have been in the tank for a while are now gone... and i can visibly see the bulge in the little guys stomach... so he must have been the one that at the other 4 earlier in the week, i just didnt notice... so thats great... hes eating... still wont eat out of my hand little punk... haha
