hey all im a moderately new aquarist. had a tank for about 8 months now.. went through my community fish phase and have started buying cichlids.... my tank is hexagonal but i am not sure how many gallons it holds..my wife bought the tank from a local goodwill store for ten bucks(she probably wishes she never did haha) i was wondering how i find out how any gallons it holds.. i think somewhere between 25-30 gallons. i have riverrock in it and a fake alligator skull as decor and i am currently looking for a bigger tank because of the stock in my tank... they don't harm each other but i know it is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and i fell a tad overpopulated especially when my juveniles get bigger

the list goes as follows:
a bala shark about 4 inches
a pleco about 3 inches
2 small and one medium sized indian algae eaters
1 albino cory cat
1 peacock eel
2 black skirt tetras
a jewel cichlid 3 inches

and juvenile convict, jack dempsey, malawi blue dolphin,a red zebra, i believe a kenyi, and a yellow one turning purple(anyone know what it is)

any tips or pointers are much appreciated

and before you scrutinize, the tank has had the current stock in it for a few months with no problems... thanks for reading a nice to meet u all

Be most wellcome!

I cannot help you with the gallonage, but do get anither tank, especially considering the cichlids you mention.

You have 2 kind of cichlid, African and American. Shouldn't be kept together. Your hex might be good for the African for a while make sure lots of hiding places

oh there are tons of hiding places, i have created alcoves, caves, and areas you cant see from the front out of the river rock and the fish seem to love it, the only to that but heads a little bit are the dick dempsey and the convict because of the similar color patterns, but no serious fighting yet... just the occasional chase

You need to decide if your keeping american American or Africans sounds like you've git a mix of the two there , the ph is a lot higher in African tanks , try go your lfs and swap the African ones after a google id for American ones bit easier to keep
