Hello everyone,
i am new to MFK and i am glad i joined :)
i am 16 and i live in Toronto, Canada.
I have had tanks since i was 5 years old and i enjoy this hobby a lot.
My first tank was a 5 gallon, from there i got a 180 gallon which was awesome. Since we moved around a lot i had to get rid of my tanks :( My latest tank is a 60 gallon long.. which is big enough to me at least.. next year i plan on upgrading to 125 long :) i have many videos on youtube so check them out... i have spent a ton of cash on my tank but its worth it.. i get my fish from a place called Finatics.. which is amazing.
One question i had is how do you guys control aggression with Malawi Haps... i am having a bit of trouble with that. Thanks and i hope to be a fun member and get to know this amazing community..

The video link does not work.

What is your stocklist?

My current stock list includes
~ 1 Nimbochromis venustus
~ 1 Red shouldered peacock
~ 1 unknown peacock
~ 3 cuckoo catfish
~ 1 algae eater
~5 yellow labs 1.5inch
~1 Copadichromis borleyi (Kadango)
~1 Fossorochromis rostratus
~1 Sciaenochromis fryeri

the venustus and the Copadichromis borleyi are the most aggressive..

maybe add a rock pile so the fish can claim their own territories and hide in and do whateva else fish like to do in rock and i think its looks great but it would look better with sand

yup you are right.. sand is better..
i will change to sand in a months time just cause it is a lot of work and i am going to have to remove everything but thanks alot. I shall switch to cichlid sand lets hope it comes in black :) Thanks again
:):)

Nice looking tank, very clear water.

What you could do to minimize aggression is:

Keep them well fed. This works with just about any fish. Hungry fish are mean fish generally.

Overstock them. The more fish you have, the more targets the aggressor has. This doesn't really make them less aggressive, just makes the results of the aggression less damaging. In your case i would advise against this, unless you're absolutely sure you're going to be getting the 125 soon.

Add more rocks. In your tank there isn't too much rock work. Haps are open-water species, so don't restrict the swimming space that much. But more rocks give more space for the other fish to hide. Which, once again doesn't really solve the aggression problems.

What are the genders of the fishes listed?

Also, watch out for that Fosso when he gets big. From what i've heard, they're very aggressive as adults.

Also, put some sand in there! :) Your fish will love it, and you'll love the looks.

LOL thanks a lot, its people like you that make this hobby amazing..
as for the 125 gallon, yes im sure im getting it :) but next year,, i will surely add sand and a bit more rock work.. the fish are VERY well fed, i think its just personaility, as for the fosso... he is the nicest in the tank.. he is currently 8 inchs :) thanks alot again, i shall make a update vid tomorrow
