Hey,

New to MFK; been visiting the site and reading a few threads since a few months. Am a big fan of fish and love my 55Gallon tank with the Silver Arowana + comon pelco + 2 red blood parrots; aquascaped by my wife. (understand its a little small for the Aro, but fits OK for its current size; planning to upgrade to 150 Gallon in a year).

My Silver Arowana is 3 and half months old with approx 7 inches; when I bought it at month and half old it was 1.5 inches long. Have been feeding it Hikari sticks and occassionally a cricket or moth. Plan to start a more regular live feed since mid-Sept.'10.

Am here to learn from the forum on how to best mature my monster and enjoy it.

Welcome to MFK, nice tank and set up. You've already seen how fast silver aros grow. In a year your silver a 24" long monster and deserving of at least a 180g 6x2x2' tank. Eventually something in the area of 300 gallon will be needed to properly house it. I would hope a bigger tank would come much sooner, as it will have outgrown the 55g here within another couple months.

Good luck,

Very nice looking tank. But aros do grow amazingly quickly, so aim for the larger tank(300 gallons) as soon as you can. I have never kept an aro myself (can't have a tank that large on a third floor apartment according to landlords), but I have been reading lots of threads about them. beautiful fish.

welcome_22.gifbeautiful tank and arow... love the set up... welcome to mfk.. enjoy the forums and if you have any questions just ask... always here to help

Welcome.

Here is a food tip -Instead of spending loads of cash on live food just buy some Shrimp or Tilapia filets at the Grocery store. Thaw it out and cut into bite size pieces, the Aro will gobble either right up. Much better for the fish than feeders from a pet store. Cheaper and easier to store too.

Nice tank!

great advice........... just awesome.... i just want to add ..then stuff the shrimp and talapia with a few arow pellets and that boy is healthy and happy..

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the tips. @Polish, great tip; being a seafood foodie, always have shrinmps/fish in stock; will try that out today itself; as it is I had planned to start the Aro on live Cricket feed from this Friday, so perfect timing. Thanks for sharing.

@RedDevil - will incorporate your suggesstion; since the last week, he is enjoying the freeze dried Shrimp Plankton more than the Hikari sticks (guess 3 months of the same food could do that). Thanks for sharing.
