Hi all, just picked up a Craigslist rescue. Two Oscars (8/9 yrs old) that his ex wife left. They came with a 75g tank/ stand and a big two chamber HOB filter. Both are definitely well fed, but lack of maintinance taken it's toll. Ripped scales, some small infections, and dull colors. The gravel had so much built up muck it turned the tank black when moving things. Looking for my best course of action. As of this evening they are set up with the cycled media with bare bottom and a small bubbler. Tia for any and all advice as this is new to me.

(For reference I've done planted, low tech, and several full saltwater setups)

Hith? Do you mean ich? They may have ich but I couldn't get a good look and I'm keeping lights off for 24 hours to lower stress.

I mean hith, hole in the head. It's complex disease.

Welcome aboard both to the forums and as an Oscar keeper. What a great fish, so much personality, also can be taught to do stuff, like mine jumps and grabs carvinor sticks out of my fingers.

Post up some pics and the great people here with help you with anything that might come up. I just got back into the hobby and I learn something new everytime I come to this site and I am very greatfull for that.

I have a little 5in Oscar and think that you wont regret being a great guy and rescuing those Oscars kudos to you sir.
