Hey everybody!
I was walking in the woods today and i came across this stream with various fish in it. I was thinking it would be really cool to house some of these guys in an open 55. I live in MD and I have no idea what kind of fish these are. Can anybody help me out about how I should go about housing these guys.
Thanks a lot!!

i dont know 100 percent fish in your area...but an open 55 wont work...55 will work but shiners and dace are jumpers...join forum.nanfa.org

a few of us are members over there and you can find out all the info over there.

^ha well if that would be thee case there are endless possibilities for natives....i suggest a stream tank. darters on the bottom....shiners and dace throughout...but keep them to a limited amount so food can make it to the darters.

Quick caveat: always know your local laws and regulations before taking fish home. We don't want you getting in trouble!

Like Bumpylemon said, the NANFA forums are a good place to find not only information but collecting partners. I know a couple of the mods there are in the Maryland/DC area; they should be able to help you with any questions you have.

The Peterson Field Guide to Freshwater Fishes is a great investment.

A 55 is an ideal stream setup because you can get lots of linear flow, but will also work as a swamp or lake community setup or as a sunfish tank. There are lots of possibilities!

My darters dont ever have a problem gettin food, they want mostly bloodworms and Hakari micro pellets the big fish will ignore those and my darters go to the top of a 40 breeder to get the worms, Im a NANFA member as well and welcome all new members but we have plenty of experienced Native folks right here :)
