Hi all,

I am new to this site and I am preparing to purchase my first PB and would like some input from some more experinced keepers. I have a 125 gal and they will be the sole occupants. What types can I keep....the only ones i see in the LFS are occellaris and sometimes timinsis. I know that I cannot keep Timinsis as they get way to big, but can I keep occellaris? Are there other types that would suit my tank better? I really like the green body with red/orange belly and also the azuls. Where is the best place to find the Azuls and what is there proper name? Are there any good articles on keeping them? I also noticed that some are saying its difficult to get them to eat processed foods....will they eat New Life Spectrum? Thanks all.

Depending on what size you get the bass and what type you get a 125 would work for quite a long time.As far as what kind get what you like.Azul are pricey for a first bass but if you like them go after them!!Alot of people are selling there azul right now in the classifieds.Paquiti is the proper name i am probly wrong on the spelling though i am just horrible in grammer.Of course bigger is always better:ROFL:

If you like the ocells I recommend you do them and some monos to start off with. The azuls are a bit pricey in my book but I would grab some if money wasnt an issue. I recommend trying ocells, monos, or orinos. To get them started on processed food I have found it easier to try feeding them in a smaller tank at first and once they catch on move them to a bigger tank.

monos look better than occells easy to find to azuls are gonna run you at least 3 bills orinos are a good alternative

I once asked a question when like when I was a PB newbie. Go with Kelberi if you don't plan to upgrade your tank bigger than a 125. The kelberi would be the smallest pbass at max size.

Thank you all. I think the local LFS has Ocells, but I may try to find some of the others on this board. Is there one processed food that works best...NLS??

My pbass seems to like Hikari stixs and bio gold +.

125 will last you awhile, i would suggest orinos, they are slow growers and much more colorful then occels, i wouldnt buy from lfs tho, well at least not if you want them to have any color when they get big, most lfs only carry farmies, and all farmys, no matter how nice are ugly and plain compared to a wc fish

i would suggest looking online, rapps and snook have great fish, and pretty good prices too, right here in the mfk venders forum

Where can I find Rapps and also snook? I am planning a trip to Ft. lauderdale next month....maybe I could catch my own. Has anyone done this?
