Hey all, just got myself a new 8x2x2 and am wondering if it will be big enough to house some pbass? Will they eeventually grow out of a tank that size? How many would you recommend and what sort of tank mates other than rays and cats can live with them?

I've had a Google and a bit of a read through here, and havnt found these questions answered but feel free to point me in the direction of the thread if they have :-)

Thanks in advance, Josh

You can have a hand full of kelberis. They max out at like 18". So it could hold them for life. Kinda crammed. But I'm willing to bet you'll fall in love with Cichla that you can't stop buying them, and will wanna to buy a bigger tank in the future to hold otherb types/more Cichla :)

Just look around as far as tank mates go. I see people have all sorts of fish with cichla

And welcome to the Cichla section

x2 to what sevank said. There are alot of cool kelberis floating around especially from our great vendors here like discus origins and lovethemfish. As said, kelberi are one of the smaller bass, you could keep 4-5 in that tank with no other tankmates, 3 with tankmates. Tankmates are endless possibilities. Rays, datnoids, cichlids, anything!

Thanks for the reply fellas, forgot to add I'm in Australia and I'm pretty sure we only have monos over here :( how big do they get? That's good about the tank mates hopefully will give some festae a go in there.

24" usually, you might be able to get 1 or 2 but you have a 2' wide tank..soo. A good rule of thumb is they have enough space to turn around in plus an extra couple of inches, 2' is barely enough to turn around in.

Dammit. Thanks for the help no chance of getting a bigger tank so I guess it's festaes for me then!
