new to the site and im interested in getting a pair of bass but i dont know where to start. i have a 100gal. tank and just wanted to know if this would be sutible for these fish. Second where would i start find them i dont like to get the little ones, id like to start out with 6-8" fish. plus what are some good tank set ups for these type of fish. i have in my tank alot of big rock with caves and white gravel. i use it for my frontosa and my snooks. but Im getting pretty bored with them ive had them since i was 13 in this tank. alll i need is some direction or a path to go on. But i really would like fish that would love the roots of a tree from the amazon ( where they hang down from the top of the tank). Could any one help me on this?

thank you,
bigfish

Welcome to MFK. If you want Bass that grows very quickly, invest in a Mono', Ocell or Temensis Bass, if you want amazing color but slower growth, invest in an Orino...Good luck.

Temensis get really big, Ocells could possibly live in a 100, depending on dimensions. most likely youd want a 180 if you keep pbass.

i hate to say this, but if you want peacock bass youll need a bigger tank, much bigger. ocellaris get huge, i just got rid of a 20" a few days ago because he was too much for my 400g. a 100g tank can maybe house a pair of kelberis for a while, but even these guys need something bigger

thank you i might invest in a bigger tank, but theres a problem....i have no room :(. i think my frontosa are pretty good size for this tank there 12" well the male is and the female is 8". I just really like the bass and i think once i get to clean out my basement ill have a good pair of peacock bass. One question? how big of a tank would i be looking at if i got a pair 1,000 gallon tall or long or both?

thanks

well i pick up two peacock bass tonight. there amazing great shape and fairly mild but the frontosa spook them.. hmm i did changed up the tank before i added both but there fine when the light is off. there in a 100gallon but i will start saving up for a 750 or a 1,000 gallon i have a hugh basment so i could build it down there. But yes there great! there about 12" both of them. when can you determin which is a male or female. they swim together like they are a pair but i could be just intinct. any ideas?
ill tyr to post pics for ya! asap!

Hopefully they are a pair, I'm new to this peacock bass keeping too, and I hope the two I got are a pair too.

look at the vents only way to tell in my knowledge.

i tried looking the vents up but had nothing. i really dont know what to look for when it come to that. I was told that they begin to develop a hump on the head it its a male but when does he start this process?

i dont have much knowledge on this but i think females vents are more triangular while males its more of a circle.
