over there boi
Just recently got me a a pike lfs called a blackline pike. This thing has super attitude will chase other cichlids twice his size. I researched this sucker and i believe it to be venezualan pike. It is about 3" now and a f of an attitude. It is housed in my 180 what can i expect from this sucker down the road.

It will lose its spots and stripes get big and eat a ton

Sounds cool the little guy already eats like a pig bloodworms, shrimp and silversides. So then they are not to great looking as adult. What other pikes are must haves. Kind of new to pikes.

all pikes are must haves. the xingu I aka orange pikes are pretty awesome or cobra pikes are pretty sweet. just keep in mind that it might not work having them in the same tank. they get very aggressive towards other pikes.

At what size will it begin to lose it's spots and stripes. I have had this fish for about a month now and it's probably put on an inch in length already. At what length to they begin to thicken up.

As a rule of thumb the larger pike will gain about an inch a month under good conditions. It will loose its juvy spots when it gets in the 8-10" range. It will get an olive greenish color with a tail spot.

welcome to the world of crenicichla!

ime vennys lose there patterns around 5"-6", but every fish is different.

for the record, you have in your possesion the largest of all the crenicichla. the sp. venezuela belong to the lugubris group, the lugubris group is the bigger of all the different crenicichla groups. the veneuela has been known to get up to 24". crenicichla are not easy fish to mix with one another, or similarly shaped fish. in a 180g you can expect this fish to get big quick with regular feeding and proper water changes and parameters.

enjoy!

btw, are you sure its a venny and not a strig?

here is a pic not very good but best one i could get will try to get better pic later. thanks for all the input.
