THINKING OF STARTING A P TANK. WOULD IT BE SAFE TO START 7 BABY P'S IN A 30gal. TEMPORARY??? AND WHEN WOULD I HAVE TO UPGRADE??? DNT BE TO HARSH JUST NEW TO THIS STUFF.....

I bought ten baby piranhas and had them in a ten gal tank for two weeks, soon afterwards I transfered them to my 125 gal tank. THey grow extremely fast when they are babies so I would bypass the 30 gal and get something bigger so you dont have to stress them with a move to a bigger tank like I did.

agree. if possible start with a tank you can house them for life. they'll grow faster in larger tanks and you can avoid casualty if there are more space to swim away. add plenty hiding places as well. if you plan to keep all 7 rbps then I would start them in a 100-125g. with good water condition and keep them well fed they'll grow big with blink of an eye.

I agree with the 2 other comments. They wont grow as fast if you have them all in the 30. It's great that you want to keep piranhas but you should get atleast a 135g. But temporary, the 30g isn't that bad. :)

if you were to start them in a 30 you would probably have to upgrade in like 2-3 weeks.. lol

not worth it.. just get a big tank :D

ON THE INTERNET IT'S CONSIDERED SCREAMING IF YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS. IT'S ALMOST AS BAD AS TEENAGE GIRLS THAT TyPe LiKe ThIs To bE KeWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just fyi.... =)

if you got a 30 you might want to look at some smaller serrasalmus species sanchezi, irritans etc. Or wimples or exodons. RBP's grow fast and they need to be kept in shoals (groups). They also grow up to about 12" which is about as wide as your tank. They wouldn't be able to turn around.

Look at how big this dudes RBP's are. These are two years old. That gold fish is about 6 inches long.

okay ive done alot of homework im going to get around 6 to 7 1" rbp and i think im just about ready to start heres what i got so far as to a basic set up for now....

30 gal
sand/aquarium rock
filtration (not sure need help)
a couple plants and bogwood
dim light
ph tester
heater

what else do i need feedback appreciated....?????

go with a 75gallon. and you will be good for 1 yr, maybe. as they get big they will start to kill each other off if there isnt enough room.

if u did ur homework you would have seen that it isn't really smart to start them off in a 30 gallon tank.. you would have to upgrade in a matter of weeks..

sorry if this comes off as being an ass / b!itchy.. but you made a thread asking for us for advice.. then you just go and pretty much ignore what we tell you..
