Hi everyone at MonsterFishKeepers! I am new to Aquariums and have always wanted one. I got a 125 gallon tank and purchased 10 Red Belly Piranha that the guy at the fish store called Juvenile

They have been in the tank for about 3 weeks after it was set up for close to a week. They seem to be okay. I don't have really know what to feed them. I have been buying them 24 gold fish a week which they eat.

Thank for any advice that experienced guys can offer me

Welcome to MFK. Your tank would not have been cylced after just a week unless you seeded it with beneficial bacteria. How often do you do water changes? Do you test the parameters? What are you filtering the tank with? How big are the piranhas?

As far as feeding them, you should stop feeding them the goldfish. Goldfish from the store are unhealthy and could introduce disease into your tank. Start feeding them things like fish fillet, shrimp, and other prepared, meaty foods. If you want to feed live feeders, the best thing to do would be to breed your own (convicts are a good choice); the second best thing to do would be to quarantine the feeders you buy from the store for several weeks before you give them to your Ps.

beneficial bacteria? Not really sure what you mean here bro. But I set up the water from my bath tub and used a bucket they gave me at the fish store. it was used to transport my Piranha home. They are about 4 inches each right now.

I got the filter that the fish store guy said was the "best"

Ehiem 2128 Canister Filter with an Internal heating mechanism that heats the water as it circulates it throughout the aquarium.

I didn't test the water parameteres cause the test kits are so expensive. Cheapest one was almost 18 dollars.

I added a product called Cycle to the water and a detoxifier.

Piranha seem to be doing very well though. They chase eachother though.

how did u cycle your tank?
the only ways i know of that take 1 week are using liquid ammonia or things along the lines of bio spira.

If u did not do those u should test your water parameters if u do not know what to test for go to your LFS and get a water sample from your tank tested their and tell us the parameters nitrite ect.

As feeding goes pellets fresh not smoked or anything fish clams ect from a grocery store.

Do you have pics of your tank?

sry didn't notice your last post the stuff you used is probably good for cycling but i would test your water parameters just to be safe.

You don't always notice bad water and bad water leads to lots of problems fin rot or just unexpected death best to test your parameters every couple weeks at latest.

If testing is to costly bring a water sample from your tank and ask to get it tested at your LFS they usually do it for cheep.

OH, WOW! You need to test the water asap. There's a good chance that it's still cycling. Hopefully, being called "juveniles", they are only a couple inches. You can buy an Eheim canister but can't afford a test kit? A test kit is the first thing you should buy for an aquarium. You're going to need more filtration eventually, too.

GOOD LUCK!

Your tank usually takes about a month to fully cycle, so your water paramiters are gonna be on a rollercoaster ride..... You should feed your fish something less messy and more sparingly like market shrimp every other day or two. If you feed your fish alot thet will make alot of waste and will produce amonia which is #1 killer of aquarium fish, also piranha are very messy eaters all uneaten food that stays in the tank produces amonia as well. Your gonna have to check your water every day, and your gonna end up doing alot of water changes(make sure you use cycle every time with a waterchange). Hopefully you stay on top of things and you can keep your fish alive, but you know its trouble if your water starts getting cloudy.

Ammonia eh? Yah I blew most of my money on the accessories for my tank. the tank and stand and light and lids were like 650 and the other stuff cost me over 500 dollars...

Ill bring in a water sample. I have been changing the water every week. Its crystal clear right now and the Piranha are extremely active and don't seem to be having any problems.
