I'm setting up a 40g tank, and my wife wants to put plants in it. I'll have t5 lighting. Not high output and just two bulbs. What are some hardy lower light plants, and any tips on planted tanks in general would be very helpful. Thanks.

Lately I've been buying bulbed pants from petco.

Comes in plastic container (dry) and costs like 3-4 bucks.

Has about 5 bulbs from lilies swords and onion.

IMO very awesome plants that require little light and fert.

Takes about a month to sprout but very worth it.

Anubias, mosses, hornwort, crypt's, etc... What's the wattage on one of those T5 NO bulbs you'll be running? If you don't know the wattage then figure out the length of the bulb in your fixture.

If you just wan't some straight no nonsense plants get some anubias. They are incredibly hardy and don't require anything special. Just make sure to not bury the rhizome. On the other hand you can get unlucky and have to deal with anubias disease in your tank where the rhizomes will melt away and your plant will die... it happened to me in one of my tanks... Get some Anubias nana's they are pretty much fool proof and don't seem to be affected by anubias disease.

The light fixture houses two 14 Watt bulbs. 28 Watts all together. One will be a colormax bulb for plants(it has a pink color to it) and the other is a 6700k.

28 watts over a 40!? Yes, stick to low light plants. Mainly anubias, mosses, and most crypts. Your best bet would be some anubias to start with. They are very hardy low light plants and look very nice! Just don't bury the rhizome and you practically don't have to worry about anything else. No ferts needed, no Co2, and your light will be just fine.
