well i want to plant my 55 gallon fish tank. i have never used live plants befor so i know nothing. here are a few question will my will my like work its just a normal fish tank light.do i need use fertilzer? what plants are the best to start with. any other info will help just tell me ever thing i need for a planted tank

Do you have 2-24 inch lights,a 48 inch 40 watt strip or a 48inch dual strip. Is it a new tank or old one being converted. As for plants look at a few pictures of established tanks and see what you like and work from there.

look at THIS site it has plants by lighting requirement. you will most likly be getting a low light set up with normal bulbs that come with the tank you can get a good guess by using the wattage per gallon rule more light equals more growth and more things you have to do to the tank. if your sticking to low light stuff no co2 or fertz should have to be added.

read and read some more read the stickies other sites then come back with some more specific questions

its a 48 inch light thats all i know. its a old tank being conveted.i just want plants that dont need those $$$$$ lights. i relly like the moss looking plants and the grass ones.

Is it one 48" bulb . Thats only 40 watts. While there are a few plants that willsurvive at this level I would suggest a upgrade. also how old and what type of bulb. It matters.

the light only has one bulb.i have no clue how old it is i got this tank for free iv had it for less then a year.there is no writing on the bulb that says what kind i dont think its an aquarium bulb.the light looks not to old but nothing new.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR BUDGET IS BUT I WOULD CONSIDER ANOTHER LIGHTING SYSTEM. IF YOU JUST WANT TO TRY TO MAKE DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE AT LEAST GET A NEW PLANT BULB. STICK WITH LOW LIGHT PLANTS LIKE ANUBIAS,JAVA FERN,JAVA MOSS OR OTHER LOW LIGHT PLANTS.

thanks if i do see a plant i like that need high lighting i will plant my 20 gallon thanks again.
