i'd like to plant my 26g (3'-10"-17") tank but dont know anything about aquatic plants. The tank houses my 2 senegal bichirs and has no lights or substrate. How many watts of lighting should i have and is there a certain type i need to buy? i'd like to keep low light plants. also, i want to use sand as substrate but do plants grow well in this? any helps appreciated

With many carnivores you will run into problems like uprooting. Best course of action, is to just use the right plants that bichirs can't uproot. Example: Floating plants, huge root base plants (amazon swords, crypts, etc), plants rooted to rocks or wood.

thanks for all the info, the sticky was extremely helpful.

No problem. It is a long read, but lots in there. Now you can ask more specific questions that we can hammer out for you. :D

i have bichirs and tsn in my planted tank, just make sure the plant is held on sturdy enough there should be no prob with uprooted plants unless if they bite off the stem or dig a really big hole which i dont think would be happening:D
