I want to know:

what kind of Plecos have Fat/Big head?

what plecos grow whiskers?

I know that Royal plecos do, but what other plecos grow whiskers.

I want to find one for my tank.

How big is your tank and what kind of fich are there in ?
How is your filtration and current ?

Try planetcatfish.com or a google search.

But Panaques generally are the whisker growers.. in face the biggest..

oh, so panaque is a type of pleco. jus learned that. lol

Panaque is a sub species of pleco, theres too many to name.. but wood eaters are Panaque and most of that subgroup have wiskers.

EX: Royal Panaque L-190
Dull Eye Royal L-191
Watermelon Royal L-330
Papa Panaque L-90
Blue Panaque L-239
Brazil Royal L-27
LDA-65 Panaque (unknown name)

Another subgroup is Hypancistrus, ex L-201, L339

There is one species with fangs, L171 Hopliancistrus Tricornis

Also note that All pleco with whiskers means full adults.. whiskers are males as well.

Panaque is a genus of the Loricariid (pleco) family, eg:

Genus: Panaque
Species: nigrolineatus

Genus: Hypancistrus
Species: zebra

A while back the genus was split to into Panaque (large ones, royals etc) and Panaqolus (small one, L002 etc) but then they reverted back just to Panaque.

L239 is a Baryancistrus despite its common name.

Apart from royals the only other pleco (I can think of) that has a big/fat head are Pseudorinelepis genibarbis aka L095 and L152. Most pleco develop 'whiskers' but its mainly royals who get the big 'whiskers'.

ah.. thanks for clarifying that up..

For 90 gallons most panaques are too big, Ancistrus also grow nice whiskers :)
