I kinda keep my 125 tank light on 24/7. I have 2 oscars in there and they seem to just hide when i turn the light out so i normally keep it on. It is a garage light u have hanging from the ceiling over the tank.

There is algae growing all over the rocks and gravel. I figured instead of useing chemicals why not invest in a pleco of some sort to help with the algae.

What species would you guys recommend for someone who never really had a pleco? (i was looking at the hifin spotted pleco) http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3924444&lmdn=Pet+Type

any pleco would work but it would be beneficial to turn your lights off so they come out to graze and feel more secure if the light is on twenty four seven its probably just gonna hide.

Most plecos contribute to more waste and algae than they consume, but there are several smaller ones that work well. L168 or L52's only get about 5-6" and pretty much only eat algae and vegetable matter.

And you should try turning the lights off for a true night cycle. Plecos are mostly nocturnal and your other fish need to rest at night. I have lunar lights on my tanks that gone on after the mains go off.

Yea, it didnt really matter on the size to me, just figured a bigger one would be better because i never had another fish with these oscars that are about 5-6 in and compete with each other like crazy for food even if i make sure there is more then enough to go around.

I guess starting tonight i will start turning the light off and then back on in the mornings
