I'm new to this pond thing and I'm thinking of setting one up. I live in detroit, michigan, so it gets cold here.....sometimes very cold. I am thinking of either setting it up outside or in the garage. I am definately going to be using a heater strong enough to heat the water. What kind of filters would you recommend using. And what kind of fish could I stock in my pond..... if I use my garage I am thinking of getting a bunch of piranhas...the garage pond would be 300+ gallons.

You could go with 2 ponds, kind of like a summer home for the fish :D.

And going to Florida (garage) in the winter .

W/D with heaters in the insulated sump also.

Check out this calculator for temp compensation.

1500w of heater in the winter and 500w in the summer.

Use multiple heaters for redundancy.
