Dont really have any questions, just wanted to know how successful everyone was with their puffers and pictures? What about any videos of them eating???

In my Album there are some pics of my Fahaka and possibly other puffers i've kept in the past....

Either way, welcome to the world of puffers...

I have a 6 year old fahaka and it is still my favorite fish. Mine is picky about food and I would say that food and tooth care are the biggest hurdles for puffer keepers. I have a crayfish breeding program just for my puffer and I supplement with snails from aquabid.com.

I have 2 south american puffers. I was reading that 1 drop of clove oil per liter of water will lightly sedate a puffer so that you can clip the teeth with a fingernail clipper....I don't particularly like this method and I have yet to try it. I have a 55 gallon that has a large population of snails so it keeps the puffers in steady hard food. So far the snails I have kept in the tank have kept the teeth pretty well but it has only been 3 months. Right now my puffers are 2 to 3 inches long.

How do you guys handle the teeth problem? Will my snails be able to keep the teeth at the proper length? Do you guys ever trim the teeth and if so what method do you guys use?

So far I have really enjoyed these fish. They are extremely active and very curious; very entertaining. I recommend them to anyone interested in puffers. Hopefully I'll be able to say that I have a pair of puffers that are six years old.

I haven't tried the clove oil trick personally, but have heard that it does work, but you should always be warned not to sedate them for longer than about 5 min max, or it could cause damage to the fish in the long run...

As for the teeth growth rate, from what i've read it would seem that in some cases a steady diet of snails does help, but not always, and some even with a constant snail diet still need human intervention to keep their teeth trim...

If you don't want to go the clove oil route, there is a sticky in this section teaching people how to trim teeth minus the clove oil i think?
