new to salt heres what i have so far

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
right now its cycleing and im getting the lace rock to get some growth and then its going to get coral on the shelf part

Whats the lighting? Filtration? Tank Size? All these things play an important role in determining if you can get coral, and if so what types.

Looks like a 20-30 gallon tank with an internal sponge filter and nothing else. You will need about 40 pounds of live rock, and something that turns the water over about 10 times per hour before you're ready for critters/corals. And, at least power compact lights for any corals.

Good start though.

wow thanks for all the help now i know for a fact that some softies and other corals will work in low light and im working on some filter ideas i just got the tank up and running the sponge filter will be taken out but the power head will stay i got some more LR today the light is a 10K and an Actinic T5HO

you can leave the sponge part, just get another means of filtration.

so far it looks good.. 30 tall?
tank size doesn't really play a part in coral selection other than in relation to lighting.

no its a 20 im just tryin salt if i enjoy it and get used to it im planin on sellin my flowerhorn and moving the setup it to a 55

Good start. The lights will be fine for many corals. And as far as filtration goes, I'd ditch the sponge filter, and get a hob protein skimmer and a small powerhead for the other side of tank.

im gonna use the power head off the sponge filter cause it has a good amount of flow i have the sponge on it right now to catch any little bits of stuff left floating around and im lookin into moding a ac110 for a hob fuge and filter
