I have started my first reef tank. I have 3 in of sand 30lbs live rock and 110w lighting on a 30gal tank. Its been running for 3 months. Nitrates and phosphates are at very low levels. I just ordered a green ricordia mushroom polyp from saltwaterfish.com. How do I acclimate it and attach it to the rock?

drip it in using airline and a bucket for as long as you can, then superglue it. with a ricordia mushroom it may want to move about but id still superglue it. good luck with your new reef. remember to take your time, most people think that a reef can happen over night. it cant, reefs take a long time to get going.

what type of lighting are u using......also you might want to try a more hardy beginning coral like xenia or kenya tree see if they will last for you and they cost next to nothing most people give them away for free

I wouldn't supper glue it. I'd put a critter keeper or a jar over it for about 5 days it should be stuck at that point. Check it after two days to see if it's attached and let it move where it wants. You'll want to answer the light question and to do something about the phosphates before your tank looks like a swamp.

And if you glue it, then it wont be able to position itself in the current it likes best or the most comfortable lighting for it. Some corals and anemones willmove to a preferred area that suites them best, be it closer or further from the light source and lighter or stronger currents(water movement). By the way, in a 30 gallon I would get a power head maybe a maxi-jet 900 and put a Hydor Flo on it instead of having a blast of water in one direction across the tank. GL with the reef set up.

Hi,

I herad of people putting rubber bands on them to keep them in place, but I have never tryed it.

I place my new mushrooms in a pile of rubble on the bottom of the tank and let them take hold naturally. I haven't lost any that way yet. The super glue method worked for the mushrooms that were attached to substrate but only held them for a few days. The rubber band method seemed to cut them in half. I had a friend that had a ricordia that constantly moved around his tank never taking hold.
