i want to know what equipment i need to buy and how i need to go about setting up a saltwater tank as this will be my first ever any input is helpful thank you

I think nobody is intrested in typing out the 50 pages it would take to answer that properly, go figure out what you wanta keep and then figure out what you need for that type of set up, maybe grab a book or 2 and read those before you buy anything

You will need a
UV sterilizer one rated for your size tank no greater (because if it is greater it can kill too much bb which will hurt your tank)
Protein skimmer rated for double the size your tank is or the same (double is better)
Sump
Live rock and live sand
Heater/reef chiller (if you live in a hot area)
Master test kit
Power heads (if your tank needs the extra flow)
Salt mixes instant ocean is a good mix
RO/DI FILTER it will help if you have RO ware thank rather using tap

thank you for the help i have read some books and websites but they never give the great information i get from MFK i dont know the tank size yet as im trying to figure out how big of a tank i can afford to properly maintain but it could be as big as 400 gallons as small as 225

small as 225

I wish 225 gallons was concidered small to me. I just set up my first saltwater tank, but worked with saltwater fish in a lab. I got a saltwater aquarium because somebody got bored with there tank and they were getting rid of everything quick. I had a bunch of friends who had saltwater tanks and all of them ended up the same way. Fish and coral dying and algae everywhere. The advice I can give you which I am doing myself is to keep it simple. Just start with fish that will eat pellets. Don't start with coral which you have to target feed or fish with complex feeding habits.

Don't rush the set up. I had a drilled 125 gallon tank which I was going to put a sump in. I rushed setting it up dealt with tons of leaks and gave up. You don't want things to go bad or else you will never enjoy the aquarium. Take your time and do it right.

And don't be offended with the lack of replies. The saltwater section isn't to popular.

You can also look through YouTube videos and pictures of other peoples setup. Once you find one you like model your tank after it, but you can still modify it to your needs.

Start to set up the tanks and post pictures as you do it. Post the pictures online and people would hopefully help you out on the way.

ill never et discouraged by lack of replies the cricket thing was a joke and the videos are a good idea thank you for suggesting them and for recording them
