just bought my ray about 3 weeks ago. it was sold to me as a humerosa and is maybe 6 in. dia. was wonderin how old it might be and how long before it out grows my 55 gallon tank? also i read that to determine the sex of the ray, you look for the "claspers". are these "claspers" the fin like appendages at the base of the tail? thx for any help

you know what..... WOW is all i can say..... hmm 6" disk is all ready too big for your tank.... claspers are on the flippers on both sides of tail but this dont matter.... do your self a favor and research fish first and now go get a 180 gallon 6'x2'x2' tank.

well, 6 in. is probably stretching it a bit, anyways seems to have plenty of room for now. i guess i get to go shopping

You'll probably need to do water changes every other day at the very least, and 50% of the volume at that. When your ray starts shedding it's slime coat excessively, you'll know for sure it's time for a water change and you've pushed it. I'd highly recommend 2 AC300's (or a single AC500) and a canister to ensure your water stays as clean and filtered as possible.

wow thx. you should have seen the conditions it was in when i found it. haha must be one tough ray. the guy that owns the store told me they are very hardy. the ray was there for a couple months, took me a while to take the plunge. never did trust that guy..... seems healthy (very active and big appatite)

well thanks for the sleepless night:confused::( haha and the advice:) guess i will move the ray to my 48x28x18 for now. anyone want to break the news to my red devil that he has to go back to the 55? haha
