It is official, today I finally got my 55 gallon tank up!:headbang2:D
DIY stand, built with info found on this board. I have used this board and many other resources to help ensure a smooth entry into this new adventure. I will post pictures of the stand and tank as soon as i can get them.

Currently I have a sand and rock bottom, have not yet decided on wheather to go with real or fake plants, and will be cycling the tank fishless. Mainly because this period will let me settle on what fish to add.

I am currently leaning toward either 3 Bala Sharks, a couple of plecos and my current pride and joy my Veil Tail Betta, Bruce. I know that I will need to be careful of adding the Balas and Bruce, but I think I will be fine if I provde cover for Bruce (any advice on this would be appriciated) and let him find his place in the tank before adding the Balas. If this doesnt work out I was just given a 30 gallon tank that I will create a section for Bruce using smoked plexi and then add some tetras (unless Bruce can get along with them with out an issue) and a couple of other peaceful fish.

Any advice at this welcome, and I should have pics by tommorrow.

the bala sharks may get a little big for that tank. with a 55 i would suggest breeding Jack Dempsey cichlids. they are fairly aggressive and you could make a little $. just a suggestion though.:D

:welcome: Good luck....Go monster, I just bought a baby red devil and gave him his own 55! Eventually he will outgrow it. I have heard from many that it will do him just fine for life though so we'll see! have fun with it whatever you do!

Monster is the plan without a doubt, I am just 'testing the waters' with this 55 gallon. I would some day like to have RTCs and TSNs or some hybrid cats. The idea of breeding did occur to me, however for the time being I would like a fairly acitve tank.

It will be good to "season" the tank! I had barbs mollies platties....then I fed them to my oscars!

Welcome to the forum and the hobby :) Bala sharks are really cool the only thing with them is they do get big and need to be in a school. The 55 probably won't be able to house them for too long. They really are wonderful fish I have 3 and I love them they are active all the time.

yea, balas will get too big for a 55g imo but an oscar with a pleco would be cool. oscars are more monster than balas anyway:D

Yeah I have a Tiger Oscar in with my Bala's so my tank is alot of fun to watch .
