After taking a couple of years off, I now have my 75 gallon back up and running. Tanks appears to be cycled, so I added a male Pink Convict and a Salvini, both about 1.5 inches yesterday. In a few days I will be finishing the tank off with an Oscar or Texas and possibly a Blood Parrot. Is that pushing it on being too crowded? I was also going to do a school of Tiger Barbs and possibly a bottom feeder of some sort.

This seems like a cool site with a lot of great information. Glad to be here.

Yep the Oscar is gonna grow faster& eat everything it can

Cool tank setup and watch mixing large fish with small fish. Sometimes you get lucky and the fish will be fine. I can keep my full grown Jack Dempsey with anything he honestly will only eat pellets No matter what.

Thanks for the replies. Would Giant Danios be better or just scrap the idea of dithers all together? I also have a 29 gallon that I am setting up today. If things go bad I can stick the Con and/or Salvini over in it.

Toss the barbs in the 29 if you really want them...My oscar is 11 inches now and Is fine with a small jack dempsey and some other fish about 4-5" but anything less he would definitely just see as food, I think the convict will be fine with the oscar if they grow up together...If they are introduced at maturity the convict will have a real problem hahaa!

welcome to the forums,i think the oscar when full grown will fill out the 75 with not much room for other fish.do you plan to upgrade? i would try salvini, con, texas(carpintis).OR JD,nic, freddie.i think 3 cichlids.try a school of something cheap.or 3 SD will get too big to eat fast

my convict is way aggressive towards my 12 inch oscar. had to put the con in a 20 long. oscar was tired of putting up with her and had the convict half way through my oscars mouth. gl bro

the oscar would pretty much fill out your 75, maybe let you get away with one other cichlid but imho, after having kept an oscar in a 75 with a jd and a blood parrot, I would just stick to the oscar by itself in a 75, or keep a convict, salvini, and a blood parrot in there with maybe a few other things.
btw, when I say "a few other things" I mean dithers most likely, such as giant danios or maybe even rainbows. If you wanted to add more cichlids though, well, I'd say it really depends upon your filtration and how often you keep up with your water changes.
I'd also pass on the texas simply because I feel like the texas might want to claim the entire 75 to itself, and it certainly would have the size and the fight to do so.
