Hi I'm new to the forum, I'm active duty Army at Ft. Lewis Wa. I currently have an 80 gallon tank with a Flowerhorn and a Umbee. They have spawned. The Eggs hatched about 5 hrs ago. I was looking for any info on these two fishes offspring. Have they been breed before. What characteristics will they have? I've always kept fish. Yet never had experienced spawning with anything other then the random convicts that we had.

Doesn't seem like they have, but would be very interesting! Keep us updated. :P

If you want, you can separate half of the fry to raise separately in case the parents decide to go crazy and eat all their kids. But leave half so the parents can take care of them in case you fail to take care of the separated fries. :P (Not really what you were asking but I wanted to suggest it anyways).

This is the first Umbi hybrid I have heard of. Most people won't believe you unless you show pictures. It sounds like a cool cross! People use Carpintis to add spotting so you may find the Umbi adds size, aggression, and blue spotting to the mix. Hard to say as no one has done this before or not posted information if they have. If you google Umbi hybrids there are no real hits, but for other fish you see many examples. Good luck with them and please post pictures of the pair!

Fish on top is some sort of vieja - maybe synspilum. The fish on bottom is what I assume you were told is a flowerhorn as it looks like some sort of hybrid.
