Hi. I’m new to the hobby except for when I helped maintain my wife’s classroom tank when she was a teacher. I have read a ton of books and watched a ton of YouTube videos over the last few months, sifting out the crap content in several YT vids. We’re moving to a new house within the month and I feel ready to establish a tank.
I was thinking that I’d like a Severum, a Blue Acara, a Firemouth, and an Angelfish. Also adding in a group of Corys and a bristle nose Pleco. And maybe some Tetras, (would cardinals be too small in this environment.) What would be a suitable size of tank that you’d recommend? I also plan on planting the tank.

This seems like a great forum.

Thanks

Welcome aboard
To give the cichlids space I would say a 125g would be ideal.

Welcome to the forum!
I agree that a 125 would give a lot of room to work with.
I wouldn’t do an angel in that mix, they are more delicate and would get beat up on by the other cichlids.

Agreed. Skip the angelfish. Bad idea with those others, far too delicate.

I like the fish choice minus the angel. Do a large tank around 125 like mentioned above and instead of the angel another SA/CA cichlid of some sort. Those other fish will pick on an angel.

I would n'ot mix, firemouth cichlids with this crew.
Firemouths are hard water, high pH species from Central America,
All the rest you suggust are soft water, low pH South American.

Above is the water you find Firemouhs in.
Below the water you find South Americans in,
