Hello everyone, just wanted to say hi and let everyone know a little about myself and my current tank and plans for it. I have recently graduated college and am currently living at home and working an internship 3 days/week. since i just graduated and have pretty much nothing to do 4 days out of the week, i have really been getting into my aquarium.
i currently have a 35 gal tank (i think, 36"x16"x18"), just moved from a 20 high a few weeks ago - stocked with:
2 juvenile green severums
2 clown plecos
1 twig cat
1 clown loach (a friend needed a place for it once he got rid of his aquarium)
1 yellow lab
2 siamese algea eating sharks
male/female krib pair (just spawned for the first time since getting the female)
plan to get a black calvus within the next few weeks
i also have several live plants (pennywort, telanthera, corkscrew val, amazon swords...), some driftwood, and a rock pile.
i am not really a newbie at keeping a planted tank and am always looking for ways to improve my tank for the plants really. i will be getting a Rena Filstar XP3 canister filter this week and a 65watt compact fluorescent light to go with my current 28 watt.
so after the long background explanation, does anyone notice any problems with my current setup? ie fish population, is the filstar a good filter...
i plan to upgrade to a bigger tank once i find a fulltime job and move out of my parent's house. i've been thinking of getting rid of one of my severums and my lab.
one last question: i am on a tight budget at least for a few weeks and i love doing projects for myself.. i would love to build my own light combining my 65watt with the 28watt so i dont have two lights sitting on my tank. i would also like a moonlight type addition. can anyone point me toward some nice diy tutorials for any of this or offer any advice?
THANK YOU for reading all of this! I look forward to being a part of this great community!
