Hello Everyone!
My mbuna are rapidly outgrowing thier 55 gallon home, and I'm picking up a new 100gal tank this sunday
I'm going to try and plant this one, which may be a horrible mistake, but the secret seems to be getting the right species and crowding the plants, just like the fish.
I've been reading more and more about UGJ, and wanted to get some feedback on them.
I'm pretty settled on using black sand with some crushed coral mixed in for the substrate. The fish are "rearranging the furniture" anyway, so I'd like to contrast the sand with the larger white coral bits and watch them get dug up, burried, and otherwise moved about each day. Will using such a fine substrate be a problem with UGJs? Worse yet, would the water create constant "plumes" in the sand rather than pressing the water through?
I was thinking to make the jets by taking two pieces of 1/2" ID PVC and drilling them every inch or so over the 60" run of the tank. One of the filters on the tank is going to be a Marineland C360 and I was considering using it's output to power the jets. Will this be too much backpressure for the canister? Also, should I run the line all the way to the top of the tank and back down, or just drill holes in the bottom to run the lines straight out of the canister? It would save nearly 8 feet of piping (and alot of friction), but should I be nervous about drilling on the bottom of the tank?
