I have kept fish before, but not cichlids except angelfish. In the next little while, I plan on getting between a 75 and 125 gallon tank with a width/depth no more than 18 inches and 20 to 24 inches tall. All I need to know is combinations of south american/central american cichlids I can keep, and how many of each species. A green terror is a must by the way, and I don't have access to the more exotic cichlids. Im stuck with angelfish, firemouths, jack dempseys, oscars, green terrors, the common ones. Thanks for your help.

Im generally looking for a community. I would like big fish, but a single green terror with several smaller fish would be good, as long as it is well stocked, not understocked or overstocked, with a fair amount of activity. Tetras such as silver dollars are also ok.

I personally would leave out the Oscar. Are you against ordering fish online, or having some shipped to you from another hobbiest? If your willing to have fish shipped, then the world is your encyclopedia. There are so many cool. colorful, beautiful fish out there. Sorry if I step on toes, but there are far more attractive fish available than Dempseys, FM, GT, Oscars.

I myself will be ready to start selling some little ones. I have F1 Devils, F1 Hogaboomorums, Red Isletas, Festae, Jags, Dempsey x ELBD, Zonatus, F2 Carpintis Escondido, Xiloaensis (dad is white mom is barred). Soon to spawn are Dovi, Umbee, Xingu/Org Pike.

This is just my few of many of mine. Many people have fish available. You should really look into buying online. Like Gage from Cichlid Connection has treated me awesome, and his fish are superb. Jeff Rapps also has sent me some beautiful fish.

So to answer your ?. If your content on the choices you provided. I would get a couple GT, a couple FM, and a clown loach or 2, maybe a polypturis. But I like to stock my tanks a little on the heavy side.

Let us know what you decide to do.

You need to decide EXACTLY what size tank it is you are going to get before someone can give any appropriate suggestions. There are TONS that will work in a 125 but NOT in a 75...and you have access to any cichlid in the world that you want (just about). You can order any of them online and have them shipped directly to your house. If you have a local LFS and they can get everything you listed, they can get others as well, it just might cost a bit more.

Its hard just to get large cichlids to get along. your best bet is to get discus fish. If you get them from the same tank they'll do fine. They can get up to six inches. You need to cycle the tank for three weeks and test for ammonia and nitrates. The water temreture must be 82 degrees.

Well whats happening is we are going to edmonton on August 27, and so I plan on going to big als and buying an aquarium there. What really matters is the te foot print which cant be more than 72 inches by 18 inches and the cost. If I do get a 75 gallon, all I know is either just a green terror or small cichlids in a community. I wish I had the tank, but I wont for a while .
