I just want to introduce myself. I've been into photograpy, pretty seriously, for about a year and a half. I shoot saltwater images but have taken some freshwater stuff but only in public aquariums. Here are a few photos that I've taken and a link to a few hundred in a gallery. Hopefully I can be a contributor to the site. I can't believe I haven't come across this site sooner!

Very nice stuff, very professional and good quality. Describe your setup for others, Lens used and other info.

I am glad you found the iste, Welcome. I think we'll enjoy seeing your images on the site. Love the Mandarins. If I could keep one without the amazing needs that it has, I would have a few :)

Thanks for the warm welcome and nice comments paradise. I am currently shooting with a Canon 30D and use a mix of lenses (mostly my 17-55 F/2.8 IS, ef-s 60mm F/2.8 macro, and Sigma 150mm F/2.8 macro w/tubes/tc's). My first serious camera was a Rebel XT and 100mm F/2.8 macro which held me over for about six months until I got the 30D and more toys. I do own a flash (430EX) but I've actually never used it on the tank before. I'm hoping to learn how to better utilize a flash setup for tank photography.

Rparchen,

Welcome to APF. Happy to have you around.

Definitely excellent work ! Looking at work attached in this thread and linked website I would personally recommend looking into composition / rules of thirds / golden ratio and other standard photography rules.

Looking forward to your contributions.

Welcome to APF! I enjoyed visiting your flickr pages and I think many of us would be very happy if we could match the range and quality of your work.

I really appreciate you nice comments about my pictures. I've been lucky enough to license about 25 of my pictures so far. It's always nice to have a hobby that gives back like every now and then. I still feel that I have a lot to learn, especially if using a flash will help my shots or not. I've been hesitant to use them in the past but I don't have an off-shoe cord yet to mess around with. I've also considered purchasing, yet again, some more/better equipment to see if that will help. I'm drooling over a MKIII (really, who isn't?) or maybe a 5D since I do architecture work as well. Thanks again for the welcome!

I can vouch for the 5d specially for low light stuff. And off camera flash WILL help you to get sharper, crisper images.

BTW, do take jay's advice about rules of thirds. Virtually all your images have a focal point in the dead center. Your technique in taking photos is excellent, but your photos can be more dramatic with some better cropping.
