Looking on making a 1,000 to 2,000 gallon pond in my backyard to house some natives. I am going to try and make my own filter and I am looking for suggestions on what kind of homemade filter to make that works the best. Also I am looking on suggestions on what kind of pump to buy for this. I am thinking something that has at least 3,000 gpm since I will have at least two carp in there. Any suggestions or help on what to do or buy would be greatly apperciated I am a complete newbie to this.

Don't skimp on the pump. Probably the most expensive piece of equipment up front, but a high effecient, quality will last for years and provide great flow and filtration.

Bog filters and skimpy models are good DIY models. You can even make great settling tanks and vortex chambers from easliy found and cheap 55 gal. drums.

Thanks for the input and for the skippy filter are they installed in ground or above?
